Summary
Explicit communication is the only way that can guarantee a successful relationship. Regardless of whether it is a relationship with a spouse, kids, parents, friends, boss, or colleagues. We, human beings, are different in all aspects. And our minds can have different interpretations of the same situation based on so many factors.
The only way for us to make sure we have great quality relationships in our lives is by becoming good explicit communicators. It is worth the time and effort to highlight the following to the other party in a relationship:
1-Top 3 actions/behaviors I do that piss them off.
2-Top 3 actions/behaviors I do make them happy while with me.
And to make sure the relationship will sustain, we need to do it the other way as well. i.e. I need the other party to get to know the same about his/her actions/behaviors in my eyes.
Once this is done, everyone should start paying attention to what other part needs and what they hate while we deal with each other.
